If Government is Worse than Private Sector why is U.S. Postal Service revenue twice as big as FedEX and UPS?

United States Postal Service (Government) Revenue鈻?US$ 68.09 billion (2009)

FedEX (Private) Revenue鈻?US$ 37.953 billion (2009)

UPS (Private) Revenue 鈻睻S$45.3 billion (2009)

so you got one Government company making TWICE As much as the nearest competition

because

A: its better

B: its cheaper

C: its just reliable

face it cons you're wrong about government not doing things right US postal service proves where americans are going to send there mail almost twice as many use it then any other company in the USA

if USA had a government health option it would also be the most USED probably 2/3 times as much as any private insurance

this is why people want the government involved its doing things better faster and cheaper then the private sector and cons just cant compete so they want it banned so they can milk more money then they should be getting out of hard working citizensIf Government is Worse than Private Sector why is U.S. Postal Service revenue twice as big as FedEX and UPS?
Revenues does not equate to profit. The USPS is going bankrupt..
Might I suggest you stop demonstrating your ignorance for all the world to see. The Post Office may have more revenue, but they are losing a ton of money every year and have to be subsidized or go under. Fed-Ex and UPS do not deliver letters, magazines and junk mail only the Post Office is allowed to do that and it is not called snail mail for nothing. If Government is Worse than Private Sector why is U.S. Postal Service revenue twice as big as FedEX and UPS?
Government is neither all bad nor all good, just like the private sector.

Some goods and services are more efficiently administered and delivered through the public sector, some the private.

If the above sounds basic and like something any 6 year old should understand, it is. Yet, many people refuse to acknowledge it.
Did you intentionally leave this out?

Unfortunately, the U.S. Postal Service also is effectively bankrupt. The USPS expects to lose about $7 billion this year. The post office already has borrowed roughly $13 billion from Uncle Sam. At the end of 2009, USPS had $33.5 billion in outstanding liabilities. If Government is Worse than Private Sector why is U.S. Postal Service revenue twice as big as FedEX and UPS?
1. Its now cheaper to mail a letter from UPS then from USPS (.44 cents).

2. Its not cheaper, its not better

3. Its slower.

And it losess billions of dollars every year. Whereas, UPS and FEDEX make billions, are cheaper, and dont have an illegal monoply on your mailbox.
Because the Postal Service has a Monopoly on First class letters, post cards and direct mail advertising.

The federal government forbids any competition in the big markets.

Even with this illegal advantage the USPS still runs on a loss.
The United States Postal Service is facing a $238 billion budget deficit over the next decade and may drop Saturday mail delivery to help cut costs.

You are looking at revenue only. You gotta look at the big picture, Bub.
Oh really?

Better?

Cheaper?

Just as reliable?

What about profitable?

If the USPS is so much better, why does my company and many others spend so much on the other two?
By law the USPS has a monopoly on first class mail. More importantly, revenue is NOT the relevant measure, net income is.
us postal service profit -- negative

fedex profit -- positive

ups profit -- positive
Government accounting.

The same kind that they used during Clinton's fictional "balanced" budget.
Because the Post office has foreign governments pick up the tab in their home countries as required by the Amsterdam treaty. We sucked them good with that one.
D. The US post office has a government sanctioned monopoly on letter mail.
the only "revenue" the government gets is stealing money from tax payers by force.
B.) If you notice, some merchandise cost lower than the shipping and handling.
Its not. The USPS always operates in the red
By law the USPO also cannot set it's own prices, nor can it charge more for more expensive deliveries (another way the urban folks subsidize the country folks), and it must create post office locations and staff them despite being unprofitable (another subsidy for the country folks).

The USPO has not received a dime in taxpayer subsidies since the early 80's. So, it has to be profitable but it cannot act like a profit seeking entity be offering other services like banking, which Japanese post offices do very profitably.

So, with all those handcuffs and hurdles, it's pretty amazing that the USPO does such a great job.
So let me see if I have this right.

Your own stats show that the USPS has lost $68.09 billion while FedEX and UPS gained approximately $85 billion and somehow you think that the Government company has made twice as much as the nearest competition? LOL I actually had to look at your stats several times because I couldn't believe what I was reading.

And then you say that the government run health option would be better, faster, and cheaper.

You have to be a government accountant.

You are the best example of why the Federal Government needs to be kept as far away from the healthcare industry as possible.

Good job.
Revenue is different than net income (revenue less expenses). If the USPS is doing so well then why do the need rate hikes so often and why are they talking about cutting service back and eliminating deliveries one day per week? As a monopoly the USPS has advantages that other private businesses do not. They are able to borrow money from the government at low interest rates and do not pay state or federal income taxes. When a company essentially has little to no competition they usually do not work to find the most cost efficient way to do things. They do move massive amounts of mail quite well but do they manage their expenses and personnel as effectively? I have heard that they are heavy with middle management personnel.
You are so right. To top it off the Conservatives are mad because the government does not up the prices and make money off of them.
