In order to safely sell expensive jewelry to international buyers on Ebay, what must I know?

I am disabled and cannot spend a lot of time on the computer, or else I would research all this myself. I have sold things on ebay, but never internationally. My ex-husband has been asking me to get the wedding set out of the safe deposit box and sell them for 3 years now!! I feel that I will get a better price on ebay than just taking them into a local shop. I have been putting it off, because I don't know what I have to deal with to open up the bidding to international buyers.

I am concerned about any and all legal considerations, postal regulations, insurance, and possible scams. I want this to go smoothly. I only accept Paypal, but I don't know if this is sufficient for me to be safe. I was planning to put the best picture I can take and a copy of a recent appraisal on the ebay ad, but block out all of the personal information. What else can you tell me? Thanks very much!In order to safely sell expensive jewelry to international buyers on Ebay, what must I know?
When you go to the post office you just have to fill out a customs form explaining where it is going and what it is. Its simple. Sometimes customs will open your package and make sure what you are sending is what you stated. There is no way around this, but it usually never causes an issue.

The biggest pain will be finding out for people how much shipping will be. You can get "quotes" from the post office though.

Insurance will work the same as if you would send it nationally. Typically you add it into the cost of the shipping.

PayPal is the safest way to sell and purchase. I never have worries with PayPal.

If you do not want to sell to international buyers, you can state on your auction that you ship only to the US.In order to safely sell expensive jewelry to international buyers on Ebay, what must I know?
Make sure you check the buyers feedback ratings to see how honest they are. Make sure you get full payment cleared in paypal before you ship.

International bidders can see your ads just fine, you don't have to open the ad to them also.

I cut out international shipping long ago due to all of the extra hassles and problems, I lost about 3% of my customers with that move.

About that same time, I put in the bottom of my ads that I will take Paypal only, its easier for everyone involved in the transaction and simplifies my bookkeeping. Paypal is perfectly safe, its the best way to keep card and account numbers private.

To find the ebay value of your items, search for items like yours and down the left side, click something like "Completed Listings" and search again. That will give you a goldmine of info. Those are only completed or closed auctions in the last month or so. The prices in red are auctions that didn't sell for that price or were closed by the seller. The prices in green are the auctions that sold for that price.

Shipping: For the lowest price, ship by Fedex Ground. UPS Ground is much slower (7 to 8 days) and more expensive. I gained some negative feedbacks and tons of questions from buyers for shipping by UPS Ground. I gained several positive feedbacks for shipping by Fedex Ground (2 to 4 day) or USPS Priority Mail (1 or 2 day).
