My x boyfriend who I used to live with opened my mail and my car insurance information was in there. ?

I used to live with my x and then I found out he was a complete nut so I left him and also filed a police report, it was not a restraining order but he was told to leave me alone so we didn't have to take it that far. I forwarded my mail and some of it never made it to my current address. He wrote me a harrassing email which I already filed with the police about again that he rcvd my car insurance id cards and now he knows what kind of car I have. I contacted the postal service and am waiting to hear back. What happens in this case? I am so upset that my mail got lost in the shuffle and was never forwarded. I also didn't realize that my insurance was going there since I am on paperless billing, if it had been forwarded that would not have happened. What happens now? I even had to cancel my credit accts just in case any of them went there too.My x boyfriend who I used to live with opened my mail and my car insurance information was in there. ?
Postal service will handle it with apostal inspector.

Mail addressed to you cannot be opened by anyone but you. If wrong address then return to sender to be rerouted. It is a violation of postal regulations and against postal FEDERAL LAWS to open another persons mail (privacy matter)
Once the mail is out of the US Postal Service hands, box, transport etc....... it is no longer under US Postal Service Federal law. You would need to contact the local police about the theft. Don't hold your breath waiting for a reprimand of the Post Office workers that delivered it.My x boyfriend who I used to live with opened my mail and my car insurance information was in there. ?
I know that you're upset about this. You should file another report with the police about this. You should also mention to the police about the postal service. They SHOULD have forwarded your mail like you asked them to.
Actually, your insurance contract REQUIRES you to inform them if you move. WHERE you live affects your rate. The insurance cards were NOT 'lost in the shuffle'. The mailing specifically requested "Do Not Forward".My x boyfriend who I used to live with opened my mail and my car insurance information was in there. ?
if your mail was delivered to his address, then there was no law violated.
If you don't live at his place anymore, I kinda doubt that he will be driving your car. What's the problem?
Unless he charges up your accounts or sells your car or what not, until he does something, there isn't much you can do. You'll probably have some more run in's with him in the future until everything gets back in it's place. If he is dangerous and threatening bodily harm get that restraining order. Contact every doctor, grocery store, library card, etc that you have and make sure you tell them your change of address. Re-write the change of address again.

Hopefully in time he'll move on and you can go on with your life.
