How much could I sell my databases for?

I research small businesses and compile databases on company info that I find. How can I find out how much people normally expect to pay for this type of information? I am aiming to supply telemarketers and web designers/developers and improvers/email marketing companies/Insurance companies.

Pretty new to this type of work. So any help with how much I could charge would be most useful, also how to sell them and where.

I was thinking I could perhaps sell them as hard copies on Ebay one fee for multiple rights (to more than one buyer) or sole rights to one buyer, under Ebays BUY NOW policy.

I do not want to put you off its a good idea.

You have to be careful if they data contains personel information even such as a telephone number that is a direct line it may breech the 1998 (revised 2001) Data protection act if they have not given consent.

In this country general company information is ok although not in Italy.

It would depend on who you are selling it to, how many are on it,

how up to date it is, and how much detail is provided.

It could be anything from 拢400 - 拢2,000 or more. I think it is Data Monitor or Brad on line some the larger companies charge by use so they sell you a disc or a computor download and you are allowed to use the list a given amount of times and then you have to re negotiate terms for additional use.

If I were you I would look those two companies up on the internet and also go to http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1998/199鈥?/a>
Maybe you should have dpone a Business plan before you started!

Suggest you see a business advisor, usually free e.g. Chamber of Commerce (who would be a good lin), Biz Fizz, Social Enterprise Agencies, Business Links etc, or bank.

Set up a website too.

Good luck once you have your plan! How much could I sell my databases for?
At the end of the day, its worth what someone pays for it. What makes negotiation such an enjoyable art form is that if you ask too much the buyer will back out, but you dont want to sell yourself short either. You could price your website in a few ways.

You could just sell the userbase by working out your average revenue per user per month ($ you make from advertising, membership fees, etc each month divided by number of users). Then if you multiply that by 12 (a year) you've sold the buyer a userbase that if he keeps everything as it is, will pay for itself in a bit over a year (depending on their hosting / service delivery costs). Multiply by 6 for a 6 month payback period if a year is too long or 24 if they can handle two years. Also, you can add on whatever you paid to to build the website in the first place if you include the website with it, although most of these forum based websites are pretty easy to produce now.

Otherwise, sell the whole lot as a going concern and just charge your monthly profit multiplied by the longest payback period you can stretch them to.

End of the day, if you're selling them a website that they can do nothing to except wait 12 months and start making a profit out of it, they're getting a pretty fair deal.
Think of an hourly wage giving your expertise, then think of how the hours she spent to make this database. That kind of a base price. How much could I sell my databases for?
The biggest selling point for a database will be that it is bang up to date. We all get tired of receiving junk mail from old databases. You could offer a free update, say 6 months or a year later.
