Ebay items damaged in transit - what happens?

i sent some china to someone off ebay and although it was bubble wrapped to within an inch of its life and put in a box so it couldnt move, they are claiming it broke in transit. They have sent a picture of it smashed to pieces, but they are dealers and i'm not convinced its a picture of the item i sent them. They didnt request postal insurance. What should I do - can they get a refund?Ebay items damaged in transit - what happens?
It's a sad fact of the postal delivery system that sometimes, no matter how well we pack things, stuff still manages to get broken. I do all kinds of trading on Ebay and it all comes down to this one question: Did they ask for and pay for shipping insurance for the item?

I ALWAYS offer/buy insurance on any auction I'm connected with for the reason stated above. But if the buyers didn't opt for insurance then it's their tough toodles. Tell them to take it up with the post office. You did your part. It's ok to feel bad about the broken china, but by NO means let them bully you into giving them a refund.

Politely tell them that they didn't opt for insurance on the package and that that is their problem. You're terribly sorry the china broke, but you did all you could on your end. That's what I do.

You take care.

^_^
Did you use an Insured method of delivery?

I know people try some tricks on ebay I've had it myself.

Recorded delivery? Special Delivery?

If they paid by Paypal watch it as they tend to refund the purchaser.

Here's a tip for the future. If you're selling fragile goods then mark them with a ultra violet pen then if theres any doubt you can have the goods back to check them.

Always use insured transit.Ebay items damaged in transit - what happens?
No they cant get a refund - if they didnt request insurance then they took the risk. Sad but a fact of life. Dont worry about it xx
If they didnt pay postal insurance than its not your fault.Ebay items damaged in transit - what happens?
no if it was damaged in transit then it was the post office's fault. if you had no insurance they wont cover it.
When your doing your item description always state at the bottom that you are not responsible for items damaged in transit !!! I always do that !! It covers your **** ! If you do give a refund make it a part refund given as a goodwill jesture !!! This was not your fault and i would be reluctant to give full refund !
if you dint insure it you lost your money try talking to the buyer explain to him see what he says good luck
I use the U.K Ebay and on there if items are broken in transit and the buyer opens a dispute against you you will lose. Ebay always sides with the buyer where possible.
Being they are dealers, they undoubtably already know they will win the claim. ALWAYS GET INSURANCE ON FRAGILE ITEMS! All they have to do is file a complaint with eBay and they WILL get their money back! No ifs, ands, or buts.. and there is nothing you can do.. The blanket warranty "Not Responsible for.. " doesn't cut it.

You could try to fool them and risk a negative by saying "sorry, but you didn't buy the optional insurance",,, but if they know eBay, then you are better off just saying "sorry for the damage, here is your refund"
ha ha you lost your money

don't buy from ebay...

no refunds

it's not a shop...

stop it
