UK Question: Automatic numberplate cameras. I need to get an untaxed car from Reading to London. Are?

there any cameras on the M4 or the A4 that AUTOMATICALLY scan numberplates and would flag up an untaxed numberplate?

I don't want to be prosecuted for no road tax because I did try to pay it for this car, but the post office refused to sell it to me. Reason: I didn't have a PAPER copy of my insurance certificate. Why? Because the postal workers have been on strike and haven't delivered it?

Nearly all police traffic cars are now fitted with ANPR equipment, so there's always the possibility you will be caught. However, if the police do spot you they will pull you and at least you'll have the chance to explain; they'll be able to check your insurance with the company over the phone.

Technically, you'd be committing an offence by not displaying a valid tax disc, but you pays your money and you takes your choice . . .
There's no way they could tell automatically, AS LONG as the car has a 'SORN' notice. Not saying I recommend making the trip but you should be OK as long as you're careful- make sure you don't speed, wear a seatbelt and that all your lights are working.UK Question: Automatic numberplate cameras. Get it towed
Do your tax on line. Your insurance details automatically go on record now so you can do your tax on line. Unfortunately you will still have to wait for it to be posted to you, but at least you will be registered as having paid it.UK Question: Automatic numberplate cameras. They have auto recognition cameras all over the place now...

They would be difficult to avoid..

Cheepskate - buy some tax !!
most traffic cop cars are now fitted with this system as are several mobile van cameras so even if you did find a route there is still a chance you will get caught.

you can get your car taxed on line now as the mot and insurance will be on the database, the disc will get posted but you can print the receipt for proof just in case
Just drive carefully as if you get stopped they can find out that way and I know there are vehicles that can scan number plates. However, due to the postal strike its not really your fault so Im sure they would be lenient if you did happen to get stopped.
get it trailered it`s cheaper than a fine.
Beware the TALONS my son, this is the system operated by most police forces across the country. If you apply on line for the tax you are covered once payment is made. As long as there is valid MOT and Insurance you should have np as this info is stored on the DVLA computer. The penalty for having an untaxed vehicle is possible seizure and unless you have declared the vehicle SORN then you will be receiving a fine through the post automatically for an untaxed vehicle. Go online now and either declare it SORN or Tax it. Lo xxx
You have a few days lee-way before they arrest you usually anyway - You can usually skirt round these things if you have proof that you only just brought the car and of your situation. I would drive it carefully and normally and take as much information about your situation as possible.

They have cameras watching your car wherever it goes - but the most they will do is send you a letter (probably wont) - at which point you can explain your situation to them.
go to your local dvla office to license vehicle with your mot insurance and if you have it you V5C/2 new keeper suppliment its green. if you haven't got the V5C/2 then you will have to complete a v62 and pay a fee of 拢25 hope this helps.

Don't do it on-line as the disc will go to the DVLA's keeper on record and if you V5C hasn't update you won't receive it.

as for the camrea's its not worth the risk as if DVLA a out n patrol with the police and they tag your car the police will take it off you and crush it.
Lets all hope if you drive it without road tax that you get caught.
hire a car trailer if you drive it you can be fined if you tow it without tax it is a offence
The only way you could do it legally is to book an appointment at your local M.O.T. station, then drive it for a test, and then home. Of course, if you`re friendly with the M.O.T. station, they may just be prepared to confirm your booking if you get stopped...
