Has anyone ever mailed something from the post office that was insured and it got damaged in transit?

i mailed a customer on ebay a delicate item that got damaged in the mail.i insured the package for 100.00.i have the insurance slip.is this going to be a huge hassle to get compensated from the insurance.do i the sender,or the ebay customer "the reciever" put in the insurance claim, has anyone went through this, how long will it take to recover the momey.since i have the customers money allready,is it a matter that the post office and the reciever must have to take care of.also, does it matter that i packaged the item, when i went to ship it,i told them it was very fragile, the postal worker stamped the word"fragile" all over it.when i asked her what precautions are taken when handling a fragile package she said"we will throw it on the truck underhand rather than over hand?Has anyone ever mailed something from the post office that was insured and it got damaged in transit?
Sure, it happens all the time.

You're not going to be able to COLLECT under the insurance. Read the small print on the USPS website - by definition, if you dind't wrap the package so carefully that it could be damaged in transit, then it's YOUR fault, and insurance doesn't cover BREAKAGE.

The post office recommends delicates are wrapped in bubble wrap, put in a box, then the BOX wrapped in bubble wrap, and the whole thing put in a SECOND box. That's what they're going to tell you.

Sorry. I have a friend that works in one of the sorting places - she was serious about throwing underhand - all the packages get thrown around, that's JUST the way it works. Hence the breakage exclusion.Has anyone ever mailed something from the post office that was insured and it got damaged in transit?
It's been about 10 years ago that I sold something on Ebay that was broken in transit. I did not pack it well at all. There was not a problem on collecting the claim.

However, since it was so long ago I do not recall the exact procedure. But I think I went to my local post office and everything was handled there, very smoothly in fact.

You might try http://usps.com for more info.

UPDATE: You can now make a claim online at the USPS website.
