Postal insurance claim after package is delivered?

Suppose a person buys insurance thru the post office for something that is being mailed to them and also buys delivery confirmation. Then the package shows up as being delivered thru the usps.com website. The person who shoujd have received the package claims the never got it though. Can they still file an insurance claim even though the package is no longer in 'transit' ?Postal insurance claim after package is delivered?
In most cases Insured items need to be signed for, and if that is done, then the transaction is complete. If it was insured for under $50 it doesn't need to be signed for and once it hits the doorstep the transaction is complete and becomes a homowners ins. claim. To be on the safe side it's a good idea to get "Signature Conformation" that way it won't be left on a doorstep
