I sold my old textbooks off eBay last month and somebody says they never got their book. Luckily, she purchased insurance. I have the insurance receipt, but ive never dealt with it before. Do I go make the claim to the USPS or should I mail the ticket to her and have her handle it? How can it be proved she did or didnt receive it?How does US Postal Service shipping insurance work/how to make a claim?
Either party can make the insurance claim, however the claimant must have the original receipt. The claimant will also be required to provide proof of value. The ebay listing should suffice.
If the claim is for less than $50.00 it can be decided and paid by a local post office. If the claim is for more than $50.00 it must be sent off and if the claim forms are proper, will be paid by check within 90 days.
If it is an unnumbered insured (less than $50.00) there is no way to to prove she did or did not receive it. If you have a numbered insured blue receipt , delivery information is available from your local post office.
To keep your feedback clean, refund her money and pursue the claim yourself. How does US Postal Service shipping insurance work/how to make a claim?
Take your receipt and address to where you shipped to the post office that you shipped from, they will give you some forms to fill out so that they can do a trace on the package.
Let the buyer know what is going on, be friendly with them and communicate often to avoid any problems down the road.
