How do I file a postal service insurance claim on a package that was received broken?

you don't. USPS believes the value of packages mailed is zero. tough to imagine but its true, unless insurance purchased. they won't even refund price paid to originally ship...ups or fed-ex next time...How do I file a postal service insurance claim on a package that was received broken?
You don't.

They make it complicated for a reason and really don't care about you.How do I file a postal service insurance claim on a package that was received broken?
you don't unless you purchased insurance ahead of time. in that case, you take the damaged package (yes the whole package) to the post office with the insurance paperwork you were given.

I am sure this is covered in detail on usps.gov somewhere.
